The Pantcho Vladigerov State Academy of Music is the oldest school of music in the country. It ranks among Bulgarian State School of Music, which developed into a institution of higher learning-Academy. Over the past 75 years the Academy has established itself as a national center of Bulgarian musical culture playing a key role in the development of a whole network of secondary and higher schools for professional music education. Several generations of talented Bulgarian musicians have contributed to the development of the State Academy of Music. Among the founders of the Academy were theoreticians and performers of international reputation such as Dobri Hristov, Stoyan Brashovanov and Hristina Morfova, to name just a few. In the thirties, the Academy came into a first period of bloom when some of its first graduates, already established names on the European prewar music scene, joined its faculty:P. Vladigerov, Ljubomir Pipkov, Marin Goleminov, Parashkev Hadgiev, Dimitar Nenov, Panka Pelishek, Hristo Brambarov and others. This was a time of stabilization of the traditional academic structure and educational standarts. On the basic of these accomplishments, the second half of the century witnessed a rapid increase in the number of curricular disciplines and the introduction of new structures such a School Opera, The Academic Orchestra and the Academic Choir. This was also the launch of the teaching career of the third, postwar generation of Bulgarian musicians playing an important role in Bulgarian and international music life, such as Alexander Raitchev, Petko Radev, Emil Kamilarov, Gueorgui Badev, Assen Selimski, Nikolay Evrov, Vassil Arnaoudov, Anton Dikov, Pavel Guerdgikov. |
